Spoken Word Poetry

In addition to my visual art practice, I am also a spoken word poet. I’ve performed at several Rutgers University events, including the Louder Than a Bomb Slam Competition at Rutgers University–Camden, where I joined my team members on stage and delivered a solo piece during my freshman year of high school. Coincidentally, I would return to Rutgers as a college freshman to perform once again, this time for the Educational Opportunity Fund’s Summer Institute in 2019. In 2020, I participated in the Why I Rise virtual poetry slam, where I shared my original poem, Polaroid Person.

Poetry has always been a meaningful outlet for me. I loved being part of my high school’s creative writing club, serving as an editor for its annual literary magazine, and taking the stage as the emcee for our school’s Poetry Out Loud competition. Each of these experiences deepened my appreciation for the power of language and performance.
